Should You Change Your Skincare for the Summer?

Summer Skincare Tips | My Makeup Brushes

Keep Skin Glowing & Protected All Summer Long

The long, overdue season of summer is finally on its way in. Sure, it's the season to kick back, relax, and enjoying being outside instead of cooped up by the fireplace but now is not the time to skimp on your skincare routine. While you may envision your skin to be tanned, smooth, and glowing, the reality can be somewhat different as you tackle everything that comes along with it; sweat, sunburn, and premature aging due to the suns rays. This is what makes it important to factor in your skincare routine changes. You didn't work so hard ten months out of the year to let two months ruin everything. Clearly SPF is vital during these warmer months but it's not the only thing you need to complete your hydrating, protective, glowing arsenal.

Cleanser is a Must

To remove oil and grime that might be on your skin, rather than grabbing your winter, creamy cleanser, swap it for a gel based cleanser. If you tend to have oily skin in the summer, opt for a foaming cleanser.

Use a Mist

Face mist is everywhere these days and they are the best way to cool off on a warm summer day. Picking a good facial water that is packed with antioxidents and nutrients will soothe and hydrate your skin while also cooling you down. Can you say win-win?

Protect Your Lips

Yes, your lips need sunscreen too! And they really should be the first place you sunscreen since the skin is so thin. Make sure to keep them soft by using a rich lip balm with SPF 15 or higher, and reapply when you're outside. If you want to take a prettier approach, just make sure your lip gloss contains zinc for sun protection.

Exfoliate As Needed

Even with all of the protection in the world, you may end up with dry, flaky skin at the end of the night. One of the most effective ways to exfoliate during the summer is to incorporate a scrub into your weekly routine and pay close attention to your knees and elbows. After showering, make sure to apply a rich body cream or oil within a few minutes of towel drying.

Use Sunscreen

This really should go without saying but sunscreen is a must. A lot of sunscreens can be heavy and oily, which will cause you to break out and get that 4:00 shine. Swap your sunscreen for a lightweight serum that won't leave you with a white shadow.
