Why You'll Never Succeed at Minimizing Your Pores

Victoria Beckham - Minimize Pores | My Makeup Brushes

Let's begin with the age old question of what exactly are pores? Pores are the little openings in your skin that allow oil and sweat to reach the surface from your glands; in short, they are there to help your skin breathe. Our wish in life is to have smaller pore that will then make our skin have that porcelain appearance. Smaller pores allow you to have a flawless makeup application, smoother looking skin, and a more even skin tone. But pore aren't to blame here, believe it or not, it's in your DNA. While you may read many articles on how to help minimize your pores, we're here to tell you the truth, there is no permanent solution to physically minimize your pores. Don't worry, we're here to help! We've rounded up the top solutions to help shrink the appearance and give you a poreless finish, even if it is just for one night.

Clean your skin

Keeping your skin clean all the time is one of the best ways to keep them clear. If you allow your pores to get clogged, they will get inflamed and actually appear larger than before. Always wash your face with a gentle cleanser before bed to prevent all the dirt and grime from the day from clogging your pores. Even if you didn't wear makeup that day, you should still make sure to cleanse your face before sleeping.

Use sunscreen daily

Yes, we do write this in every article, it is that important. With age and sun exposure, ultraviolet rays degrade your skin of its elastic and collagen. Those are integral parts of keeping your pores looking nice and tight. Wearing sunscreen daily can help prevent your pores from enlargening because of sun damage. Make sure to use a sunscreen that will not accentuate your pores, one that does not have a shiny or oily finish. Instead go with a matte finish, as this will minimize the effect.

Keep your hands to yourself

You know this saying, it's something your mother brought you up on. Unless you are cleansing your face, your face is not a place for your hands. Your hands carry a lot of bacteria and germs and putting your fingers to your face can transfer all that into your pores. Try very hard to minimize the time you spend touching your face. Oh, and definitely do not pick at it. Picking at clogged pores are so tempting, have you seen Dr. Pimple? Our results, when we do it ourselves? Aggravated, angry, blemish, blood, scabbing and even scarring. Don't do it.

Moisturize, mask, and skincare

Your skincare routine is very important. Yes, you should avoid oil-based moisturizers but do not avoid moisturizers altogether. Oil-based cleansers are a recipe for clogged pores and congest the pores. If you don't moisturize, you are leaving your skin to get dry and allow it to respond by overproducing oil that will also result in clogged pores. Make sure to incorporate a face mask once a week. Clay and caffeine based masks are going to become your new best friend. They both help in minimizing, tighten and unclogging pores which in turn, will make them appear smaller.
