How to apply bronzer

No vacation plans this holiday season? Want that sun-kissed, just-got-back-from-vacation glow? Even if you are going away, here is a great way to fake that post-vacation glow without the added UV rays - no sun or plane ticket required. Although a tan may initially seem attractive, the consequences down the road are anything but. That's where bronzer comes in, and we're not talking about just the usual fluff-and-go default move. We're talking about a multi-step routine to learn how to apply bronzer flawlessly every single time.

TIP #1: Just like in the image above, you want your bronzer to mimic a tan where the sun would naturally hit you if you spent the day sunbathing. Swirl a big fluffy brush in the bronzer, tap off excess. Then you want to make a 3 formation (as seen on pic) on both sides of your face; stick to the outer edges of your face– the top of your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline. People usually stop there but then your neck looks white while your face has this awesome sunless tan going on. Keep going and don't forget the jawline, neck and décolletage to finish the look.

TIP #2: Make sure to choose a bronzer that's not too dark or too strong. The right bronzer should only be two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Also make sure to choose the right texture. While cream bronzer will always give you that tan and dewy look, if you are prone to oily skin or the 4 p.m. shine, you're probably better off sticking to a powder as that will soak up any excess oil and keep your skin matte.

TIP #3: If you're a makeup junkie, then go buy a fluffy bronzer brush, if not, then just a regular powder or blush brush works just as well. Bronzer brushes have more bristles and they're packed a little more tightly so you can get more color with each swipe.

TIP #4: To get that little extra glow, finish the look with a golden highlighter. Think of highlighter as the yin to bronzer's yang. Apply just a little highlighter to the top of your cheekbones, down the center of your nose, and the Cupid's bow, to get that little extra pop.

TIP #5: As with all other makeup applications, make sure to blend, blend, blend! Nobody wants to look like a zebra that earned its stripes. Make sure you blend everything around your hairline; a real giveaway is that when you miss the hairline and have that white line around your hair. Big no-no.
