WHAT IS YOUR SKINS UNDERTONE? 5 QUESTIONS TO HELP YOU DETERMINE IF YOU'RE WARM, NEUTRAL OR COOL

With summer *finally* coming, we know you're probably already at your favorite beauty brands counter looking to find a new foundation that will carry you through your tan phases of the summer. If you aren't an avid beauty girl, you've probably never thought about your undertone. Skin tone and skin undertone are NOT the same thing. While your skin tone can change over time, your undertone will always remain consistent (yes, even when you're tan). Understanding your undertone is what separates somebody from looking too made-made to achieving that flawless application. Undertone doesn't just apply to foundation; think hair dye, eye shadow, even the perfect red lipstick. How do we figure out what our undertones are? There are some sneaky clues hidden in your body and your fashion choices that can help us out. Here are five of them.

1. What Color are Your Veins?

If you can see your veins, you may be able to use that color to identify your undertone. For example, if your veins look greenish, then you probably have warm undertones. People with blue or purplish veins tend to have cooler undertones. If your veins appear colorless or match the color of your skin, you probably have a neutral undertone.

2. Gold or Silver?

Time to play dress up. Find two pieces of jewelry, one that's gold, and one that's silver. Does the gold look more flattering or the silver? If the gold is more flattering, you're most likely a warm or olive undertone. If you find that silver looks better, then you're leaning towards a cooler undertone. If you feel that you look good in both, then you may have neutral undertones.

3. Burn of Tan?

Mr. Sun is finally out. You go to the beach and try to get your tan on. How does your skin generally react to the sun? If you sunburn easily and tend to apply sunscreen more often, then you're leaning towards a cool undertone. If you tan and don't tend to sunburn, then you may have warm undertones. No matter what your undertone, make sure you always wear sunscreen.

4. What Colors Do You Look Best In?

We all tend to lean towards a color palette when getting dressed, putting on makeup, doing just about anything. Are there certain colors you find you look better in? If you're a jewel-tone (blues, purples, emerald greens) kind of girl, you're cool-toned. If you love those earthy tones (reds, oranges, yellows) you're warm tones. If you can get away with any color, you are the lucky owner of neutral undertones.

5. What is Your Eye and Hair Color?

I know, why wasn't this the first question? Your natural eye and hair colors can help figure out your coloring. Blue, grey and green eyes with blonde, brown or black hair are most likely cool-toned. If you have brown, amber or hazel eyes with strawberry blonde, auburn, or black hair you're probably warm-toned.

Seasons Change, Undertones Remain the Same

Now that you've taken the above quiz, we hope it shed some light as to what your skins undertone is. It's not uncommon to have a foundation for winter and a different one for summer. Since undertones do not change, finding a foundation that works for both your winter and summer tan is actually pretty easy. Next time you're swatching a million shades as your favorite makeup counter, remember that the shade itself can go one or two shades lighter or darker depending on the season but your undertone will remain the same, regardless if you're pale or tan. Our favorite foundation is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation for its amazing range.
