Preparation.

Prepping before makeup is the most important step. It's a mistake to think that if you have oily skin, you don't need moisturizer. If you tend to get shiny, apply moisturizer like normal and then blot it with a tissue before applying your foundation to remove excess. The secret to flawless foundation is blending; never stop at your jawline, make sure to blend down your neck, ears and hairline.

Texture.

When playing with eye shadows, makeup artists almost never stick to one texture. Incorporating matte, shimmer, and metallic helps create dimension and tricks the eye so it doesn't look flat.

Lift.

Blot.

They key to allowing your makeup to last is to blot any excess product, use powder to set and then layer. Dust a light layer of translucent powder over the top and repeat the application process to ensure your makeup won't budge.

Mix.

Don't be afraid to combine products. Mixing foundation with moisturizer is an easy way to lighten your coverage options. Mixing a touch of loose powder with your foundation will make it thicker.
